Those who supported Gregg Abbott and the school voucher plan are finding out the program does not work the way they were hoping for. The government is still in control of taxpayer and parents’ money. The plan also creates another level of bureaucracy and added cost to education.
Who is “Odessey” the company selected by the state to administer Gregg Abbott’s school voucher program in Senate Bill 2 signed into law during the recent 89th legislative session. The real cost of Abbott’s school voucher program is not known. Not only did the state of Texas legalize discrimination of children by assigning a monetary value to every child it also added another level of government and cost to taxpayers, something taxpayers do not need to the sky rocketing cost of education in Texas. Why did the state of Texas choose a company outside the state to administer the program? What are the connections and relationships between Odessey and Texas leaders? This is a question many are asking after finding out the system is not being controlled and run by school experts from Texas. What message does this send to taxpayers who are footing the bill again for bigger government and more expensive education.
As many parents and taxpayers are starting to realize the ONLY solution to the skyrocketing cost of education in Texas is to privatize it. The public education system and the money to fund it is too big to manage. The cost is out of control and there is zero financial accountability to taxpayers as many are starting to find out. Hundreds of taxpayers over the past year have found out themselves that public school leaders and local school board members have refused to turn over formal written requests for copies and information regarding district finances and expenditures. Multiple federal criminal complaints have been filed after leaders in Texas and multiple state agencies have failed to respond to taxpayers demands for accountability. Taxpayers and homeowners who have been forced out of their homes are fighting back and in growing numbers in Texas. Austin leaders and bureaucrats have failed to lead and gain control of the school funding debacle that has spiraled out of control over the past decade. The real cost of Abbott’s school voucher program is much higher than many envisioned and with added layers of government red tape.
